The 2019/20 season was Chelsea’s first since 2012 without club legend Eden Hazard on the wing, but their first with another club legend in the manager’s seat: Frank Lampard.
They were unlucky to finish 4th in the Premier League, below Manchester United, who took 3rd place due to a 15 goal surplus. They tumbled out of the EFL Cup in the 4th round after a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United, and got as far as the Round of 16 in the Champions League before getting trounced 7-1 on aggregate by Bayern Munich.
They didn’t manage to land any silverware this season – although they came close several times. The FA Cup final was their closest shot at glory, but Arsenal took the game 2-1; and they took Liverpool to penalties in the UEFA Super Cup but couldn’t go the distance.
