Football Accumulator Tips: 30th September 2017

For the third week in four, our acca was brought down by one errant selection last time out, with Swansea and Watford breaching the Over 2.5 Goal mark while we expected a low-scoring bun fight.

The sense is that we are getting closer and closer to a morale and wallet-boosting win, so let’s hope that this week’s football accumulator tips are the charm:

  • Huddersfield Town vs Tottenham: Huddersfield +1.50 Asian Handicap (7/10)
  • Manchester United vs Crystal Palace: Manchester United to Win to Nil (8/13)
  • Aston Villa vs Bolton: Aston Villa to Win (4/11)
  • Cardiff City vs Derby County: Cardiff to Win (11/10)
  • Preston vs Sunderland: Preston to Win (4/5)
  • Acca Odds: 13.36/1

Huddersfield Town vs Tottenham: Huddersfield +1.50 Asian Handicap

A bold start to this week’s acca, but one we’re happy to follow in.

Huddersfield keep things tight and testy, and of their six Premier League outings they have only lost one by a margin of one goal or more. The Terriers, as their name suggests, work very hard and very rarely yield obvious goalscoring opportunities.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are relying heavily on the goals of Harry Kane, and you wonder how long the England frontman can continue in this vein. As soon as his goals dry up, is the supporting cast playing well enough to compensate? We would argue not, and with Mousa Dembele injured and the likes of Serge Aurier and Danny Rose sidelined now is the time to oppose Spurs albeit in conservative fashion.

Manchester United vs Crystal Palace: Manchester United to Win to Nil

Even though they were far from convincing, Manchester United’s hot form continued last week against a spirited Southampton.

The Red Devils lacked attacking fluency and were occasionally lapse at the back, but hopefully the 1-0 on the south coast will act as a catalyst for an improved showing this week.

Crystal Palace will score at some point in the Premier League, obviously, but the fact that they failed to register a single shot on target against Manchester City on their travels last week suggests Roy Hodgson is more interested in damage limitation at the moment. The absence of Christian Benteke will hinder his attacking options yet further.

Aston Villa vs Bolton: Aston Villa to Win

The Villa are just starting to find their shooting boots with nine goals scored in their last three games, and allied to four clean sheets in their last five is a very positive turn of events indeed. Steve Bruce seems to have finally got his troops playing as he would like them to.

Unfortunately, there is nothing positive to be said about Bolton, who have lost their last six matches without scoring. Goalkeeper Ben Alnwick got injured in the 0-2 loss at Bristol City on Tuesday, and a goal difference of -17 after just ten games sums up the Trotters’ travails rather perfectly.

Cardiff City vs Derby County: Cardiff to Win

Cardiff faced a huge test of their credentials on Tuesday against Leeds United, and overcame those with a fantastic 3-1 victory.

It’s something of a surprise to see the Bluebirds available at an odds-against price then for this match against an underwhelming Derby County side.

Gary Rowett hasn’t quite transformed the Rams in the way most expected, and while their form is so-so (W2 D2 L2) they were absolutely trounced in the shot-count during their 1-1 draw with Brentford on Tuesday. Don’t expect Cardiff to be such generous hosts.

Preston vs Sunderland: Preston to Win

Rewind two or three years and it would be almost inconceivable that Preston would be odds-on to beat Sunderland but that’s exactly the situation that has unfolded, and in truth it is wholly justified on the part of the bookmakers.

Preston are undervalued no more: they are unbeaten in seven (W4 D3 L0) and have enjoyed shot supremacy in seven of their last eight outings. In five games at Deepdale this term they have conceded a solitary goal.

Compare and contrast that with Sunderland, whose sole win this term came back on August 13. They’ve lost six of their last seven at a goal difference of -11, and have enjoyed shot supremacy in just one of their last eight. Without the injured Lewis Grabban, their goal threat is barely tangible.
