Brentford and Plymouth Amongst the Value Bets this Saturday

Close Up of Football on Grass

This week, it’s all about squeezing the value out of Saturday’s football games. Of course, “value” can mean many things.

There’s no point in taking 6/1 about a team if, frankly, they have no chance. Equally, if we can find a home “banker” then even 4/6 starts to look good, especially within multiple bets.

We’ve found four bets across four games that we think should give you a great run for your money during Saturday afternoon.

Newcastle United v Bournemouth, Premier League, 12.30

Newcastle v Bournemouth HT/FT Betting

The Toon are on some run of form. Nine wins in a row, six of them in the Premier League, have put Eddie Howe’s side into the Champions League places. Frankly, they look better equipped than Nottingham Forest and Chelsea too, so they may stay there even if we see a resurgence from Manchester City.

Alex Isak has now broken a club record, scoring in eight Premier League games in a row. One more goal on Saturday means he’d be outright third in the all-time Premier League list in that regard.

Newcastle will not want to let this momentum go. They came out of their 3-0 rout of Wolves on Wednesday with Isak, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes still fit and not overworked. They are in great shape and apparently ready to do it all again.

They are bound to start quickly, if professionally, in a game that may work out just the way they want it. Bournemouth are a good side and will be going to St James’ Park to win, not defend. The potential openness of the first half could lead to goals, Newcastle being favourites to score first.

If they do, the 7/5 available for Newcastle to be winning at half-time and full-time would look pretty big.

Selection: Newcastle/Newcastle (HT/FT)

Plymouth Argyle v Queens Park Rangers, Championship, 12.30

Plymouth v QPR Betting

Plymouth have landed two good results since Wayne Rooney left as manager. Argyle won at Brentford in the FA Cup before drawing 1-1 with Oxford in the Championship.

That might not sound spectacular, but it shows they can play a little. They also have a +3 goal difference at home in the league where they enjoy playing. QPR are a contrast, being awful away, in fact totalling six points fewer on the road than Plymouth have at Home Park.

QPR were far too easy to score against when losing 6-2 to Leicester in the FA Cup. This game is different, but when more than 2/1 is offered for the home win in this situation, you have to take note.

Selection: Plymouth to win

Brentford v Liverpool, Premier League, 3.00

Brentford v Liverpool Draw No Bet Betting

Brentford are around 9/2 to win this game at home but are 7/2 with the insurance of your money back if the game is drawn. That’s value, as some would say 7/2 would be a reasonable price for the home win anyway.

Yes, Liverpool are top of the league and have been excellent in this division and in the Champions League. Taking out their simple task against Accrington Stanley though, they aren’t on a great run. They drew with Man United, lost at Tottenham and drew at Nottingham Forest. Is it all catching up with them?

Don’t underestimate how hard Liverpool had to work to get their equaliser at Nottingham Forest the other night. Brentford are usually very strong at home, and they certainly score lots of goals.

Selection: Brentford to win, draw no bet

Luton Town v Preston North End, Championship, 3.00

Luton v Preston Betting

The bookies seem to think that Luton have around a 48% chance of winning this game but surely, it’s more than that? Luton’s home record is fine, especially compared with Preston’s awful away record and that is without considering the potential bounce associated with getting a much-needed new manager.

Luton have 21 points at home from 13 games, with Preston amassing only 8 points from 12 away trips. Luton are genuine favourites here and should be a shade of odds-on.

How to Use Our Four Selections

We have four individual bets here. With that, the Lucky 15 is always possible.

The Lucky 15 consists of 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and the 4-fold. A £2 Lucky 15, naturally, comes to £30 which is a fair Saturday bet and offers some value across the afternoon.

The straight-up four-fold accumulator is always worth chancing on its own. These selections, as long as the prices hold, come to around 67/1 depending on your bookmaker which could certainly help pay for the weekend.

Even singles are possible here, with everything being above even money.
