  • Tranmere Rovers vs Watford – Admittedly Watford only have 48 hours to recover from their defeat to Aston Villa prior to this Thursday evening FA Cup clash, but even so they should not be as long as 8/11 to win this one with the bookies. The Hornets’ formline (W3 D2 L1) is evidence of their progress, and they were unlucky against the Villains too. There’s not much to promote the chances of Tranmere, who are without a win in five in League One.
  • Millwall vs Sheffield United – Chris Wilder is on record as saying he won’t be prioritising the FA Cup this season, and his much-changed side just about squeezed past AFC Fylde last time out. Millwall, on home soil, will prove to be much more difficult opposition given that they have won three of their last four Championship games, conceding just one goal in nearly 400 minutes of football.
  • Portsmouth vs Barnsley – Barnsley’s performances have turned a corner somewhat but their results have not: the Tykes, losing three of their last four, now boast the second worst defensive record in the Championship. In an unusual twist, the team from the division below are favourites here, but why not? Portsmouth are strong at Fratton Park and have won four of their last six in League One.
  • Southampton vs Tottenham – These two teams met on New Year’s Day and Southampton ran out 1-0 winners, so why are they a 15/8 underdog barely 20 days later? Answers on a postcard, because the Saints march on and Spurs, well, don’t. They’ve only won one of their last five Premier League outings, failing to score in four of those. The absence of Harry Kane continues to hit hard….
  • Shrewsbury Town vs Liverpool – By making Liverpool a 2/5 chance to win this one, the bookies are assuming that Jurgen Klopp will make changes to his starting eleven. And he will, but look at the names who could still start: Origi, Minamino, Shaqiri, Lallana, Matip, Lovren and the precocious Curtis Jones. That Reds side will have too much firepower for a Shrewsbury side who are without a win in five. Only Bolton have scored fewer League One goals than the Shrews, too.
