The Premier League season 2021/22 was another scrap between Manchester City and Liverpool for the top spot, leaving almost 20 points between them and Chelsea in 3rd place. City’s final match was a real thriller. Having lost just 3 games all season, City now trailed 2-0 to Aston Villa after 75 minutes and looked like they would lose the title. They then found 3 goals in just 5 minutes to win the league by a single point.
That was their only piece of silverware this season though, since they finally relinquished the EFL Cup, going out on penalties to West Ham in the Fourth round, and also lost the Community Shield in a 1-0 defeat to Leicester. They had a good go at the FA Cup but couldn’t get past Liverpool in the semi final suffering a 3-2 defeat, and got to the same point in the Champions League before Real Madrid knocked them out 6-5 on aggregate.
Their win ratio for all competitions was 70.69% – that’s 41 out of 58 games – and all without their all time top scorer Sergio Aguero, who left after 10 years and 260 goals in 390 games.
