There are some crucial internationals coming up for home nations teams, along with some noteworthy lower league domestic action. It all gets going on Thursday night and continues throughout the weekend.
Given the odds available, we’re leaving out England’s two games against Albania and Latvia. They will of course be interesting in their own right, given that it’s Thomas Tuchel’s debut in the dugout at Wembley.
We’re taking in the Nations League and the EFL as we look at some of the best bets for the remainder of this week.
Greece v Scotland – Thursday, 19:45
This is the first leg of Scotland’s Nations League A qualification play-off. Plenty more can be expected from Scotland once they get back to Hampden, but they may well struggle in Piraeus.
Both teams to score is a decent shout and you may want to include that, but Greece to win at around evens is value enough.
Italy v Germany – Thursday, 19:45
This is another Nations League play-off first leg, this time at the San Siro. These are two quality teams, but there’s a danger the match could be cagey.
Both sides are around the same price and it looks tight, but Italy can’t afford to be too defensive in the first leg. For their part, Germany have too much going forward to just sit back. Both teams to score comes up at around 8/11 and looks fair.
Barnsley v Cambridge United – Saturday, 15:00
We could be a bit concerned about motivation in this League One clash, though Barnsley may still feel they can reach the play-offs and they shouldn’t give up now. They have enough quality to take care of this Cambridge side, one they drew 1-1 with away back in November.
Barnsley to win is around 4/6 at the midweek point and they are attracting money.
AFC Wimbledon v Barrow – Saturday, 15:00
We’re into League Two here and this game offers some strangely good value.
Wimbledon are in the top three but remain there only on goal difference. They need to win this to see off Doncaster. They are also 6 points off the top however and can still win the title, so motivation should be very high, while Barrow are sufficiently clear of the relegation zone as to be comfortable now.
Barrow have been better of late, but they won at an inconsistent and frustrating Notts County before taking advantage of a sending off to come back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Morecambe. Their luck may run out now and Wimbledon at Evens looks too tempting.
Solihull Moors v Yeovil – Saturday, 15:00
Now for the National League and a seemingly unspectacular midtable affair with only a point separating Solihull Moors and Yeovil. There’s been a bit of a word this week for the home side however, and their form shows a pattern.
Solihull are now three unbeaten, including a 1-1 draw at Hartlepool last week. At home, 4 defeats in a row has given way to a draw against Sutton and then a narrow win against Ebbsfleet. Things are turning around now.
The opposite is true of Yeovil. They went 5 without defeat recently but have since lost four in a row, conceding 10 goals in that time. Odds of 4/5 for Solihull looks a fair price.
